Each
year, the FSPA identifies two minority cadets attending any of
the six maritime colleges nationwide who show enthusiasm and aptitude
for a possible career track as state pilot. These cadets each
receive a two thousand five hundred dollar award during the school
year. These cadets are encouraged to complete a brief internship
with a state pilot association so they are exposed to all aspects
of a pilotage career.
